About the founder

Brian Downing brings engineering discipline to the messy world of boat systems.

This is the credibility page, built to support both conversions and search quality.

Brian Downing

Licensed engineer, skipper, and practical troubleshooter.

Brian Downing is a licensed Professional Electrical Engineer who has spent decades designing and troubleshooting industrial power systems, controls, and mission-critical electrical infrastructure.

He also lives aboard a Beneteau 49 in the Caribbean, which means the advice on this site is grounded in real cruising constraints, limited spare parts, wet lockers, corroded connections, and the need to make calm decisions when conditions are not ideal.

That combination is the point of Sailor Cruiser Tech. It is meant to be technical enough to trust, but practical enough to use at anchor, underway, or alongside a fuel dock.

  • Licensed Professional Electrical Engineer
  • USCG Master Captain
  • Decades in industrial power and SCADA work
  • Hands-on liveaboard troubleshooting perspective
